We’ve been busy in the workshop again and created these delightfully chunky handmade candle blocks.
Mike has selected the wood for each piece based on its shape, colour and appearance; making a feature of any unusual parts. This means that not only is each piece entirely unique, but also has a character of its own. Each piece will sit quite happily on its own or with others, and fit seamlessly with both modern and rustic interiors.
This lovely handmade farm stool radiates rustic charm and harks back to simpler times.
Our woodworker, Mike, has cut and shaped each component by hand and assembled it using traditional Wedged Mortise and Tenon joints meaning that this stool will stay stable for the rest of its life. Mike has carefully chosen each piece of wood used in this handmade farm stool for it’s strength and it’s character – the beautiful Burr Oak top is gorgeously speckled with dozens of miniature knots from the tiny twigs that protrude from the tree. The legs have been turned by hand from Elm which has a lovely rich caramel-coffee colour. Available in-store or you can buy it online directly.
This beautiful print “Winter over Galloway Hills” was framed for a customer using our Bespoke Picture Framing service. They wanted a natural wood that would compliment and not detract from the image and really liked the effect of this dark-stained oak.
We think the choice of a darker frame was really effective – it draws out the line of dark, wet pebbles on the shoreline. The lighter flecks in the wood grain also compliment the tans and yellow ochres of the sand and grasses in the foreground.
The oak in this frame is grown locally in the borderlands of Scotland and is cut, prepared and finished entirely by hand. If you would like a photograph or piece of art to be framed using our Bespoke Framing service then please get in touch.
Full of life and energy, this hare almost explodes from the frame! This is an open edition print by Edinburgh based watercolour artist Tori Ratcliffe. Skillfully framed in locally grown Ash using our specialty Bespoke Framing Service.
This spectacular framed print is available in-store or online and costs £95.
Titled “Red Alert”, this brilliantly named print of a cheeky squirrel by Edinburgh-based artist Tori Ratcliffe is framed using our Bespoke Framing Service. The handmade frame is made from native Ash grown in the borderlands of Scotland.
We love the bold colours and the action that the artist has captured, it just feels like he’s about to scuttle off up the tree-branch!
This lively framed print is available in-store or online and costs £70.
Hi everyone, you may know that we are part of the Dumfries Art Trail – a collaboration of independent artists, makers and galleries all situated within ten minutes walking distance of Dumfries High Street.
The Trail was recently featured on ITV’s Border Life and you get to see around some of the workshops and galleries that make up the trail – including us!
The DART : Dumfries Art Trail coverage starts at about 12 minutes in, and we are featured at the 17 minute mark, but the whole program is really interesting.
